Harry Accornero, Ward Two candidate
"I'm a fiscal conservative.
I think frugal government is important. There are some things that you

Mike Verhoeks, Ward Four candidate

those for which they were intended."

Bob Hamel, Ward Five incumbent
"(Voters) are looking for restraint in local government. I feel
that people have to live within their budget."

Armand Bolduc, Ward Six incumbent
"My main reason to get the tax cap on the ballot was to let the 9,300 registered
voters in the city of Laconia make the decision rather than the six councilors.
It [the tax cap] is reasonable; it helps the council make decisions."

The following candidates have not endorsed the tax cap and most have publicly stated they
do not support it:
Matt Lahey, mayoral candidate
Mr. Lahey is against the tax cap, calling it "an anti-school
provision" ("Mayoral candidates" The Citizen 9/16/05).
Brad Fitzgerald, Ward One candidate
At the South Down candidates forum, Fitzgerald said he did not support the
tax cap. The following quote came from an email he sent to city hall in March
of this year which someone read at the forum: "I have no sympathy for these
tax payers with these large houses on the water or in these upscale developments
that complain about their taxes. If these people want to retire to this wonderful city,
then this is the price tag they pay."

Bob Luther, Ward Two candidate

them" (from a letter published in both The Sun and The Citizen).
Diane Roberts, Ward Five candidate
When the AG had problems with the tax cap, Roberts said,
"I was not in support of a tax cap anyway" ("Roberts, Hamel" The Citizen,

described as 'anti-growth'" ("Cormier to Challenge Bolduc" The Citizen,
8/18/25).
